Pennies Pennies era
1800 belonging to Tech. Sergeant David Daly. U.S. Army Air Force
notified David and Jessie Daly their son was presumed dead in the Burma
theatre. The Blue Star in the Daly window was replaced with a Gold star
. This indicated their loved one in active service had died in battle.
At a gathering at the Daly farm, Dave and Jessie allowed Uncle Dave's
closest friends to take a penny from his collection. Uncle Dave was
smuggled through Enemy lines by Burmese Nationalists who loved the
Americans and despised the Japanese. Uncle Dave later surfaced but
didn't recover all of his pennies. (added 2/15/2008) |
